“Ew!” That was my reaction when asked to write policies for the clinic—who likes rules? But then it occurred to me that you humans are not so naturally inclined to work cooperatively, as the way we animals are. We animals of a kind must stick together, otherwise one of us is dinner. Policies set expectations, which is a good thing. Expectations allow us work cooperatively, because they let us know what to expect from each other.
